Mystic Ville - 10th January 2022 - Weekly DevLog


Heyeyeyey, everyone,  how you doin' today? Hope you're doing just fine :)

This week has been uh... confusing and... wishy-washy (I don't know if that's a word...)

We actually have no idea at what percentage we are, we've been talking on our Discord server and forums such as F95, we've discussed things, we've received feedback, ideas, and some of them turned out to be brilliant! Like, we now finally notice some things that if they were added, would improve the game without steering it into another direction.

So, there's the problem, if there are 12 tasks, we finished 6, it's 50%, but what if it suddenly went to 18 tasks, and we still have only finished 8? The percentage would go down, people will see it as a setback. We're adding things, changing things that are "wrong" (when we look at it again.) And right now with detours and transit stops, we just don't know where are standing in the percentage bar.

So, in the meantime, until we figure it out, we'll set it to ???% and just tell the details on what we did in the separate sections below!

Story (Script/Dialogues)

I've read feedback about the MC, and somehow, people took the MC as a person we didn't intend him to be, which means *drum roll* the writing was off!

So I had to change some of his dialogues! Somebody told me that the MC isn't talkative, gives the lazy vibe, and other things, which is the exact opposite of what we wanted him to be! Hahaha, talk about messing up the writing, and I'm sorry for that since this is my FIRST time ever writing something seriously.

Other than that,  all I can say is that I've continued writing forward with the story, and I don't want to spoil it. It's not final because THERE will be changes since I am never satisfied with my own writing. 

Code

This time, code heavily depends on the art assets, I've pieced together some of the stories with the existing assets. So, I write and code at the same time, if the asset is ready to be put on together on the game, if not, I will shift my focus to writing.

As of now, there is still only Misty as a "real" sprite, so I did the code where Misty is present and is on-screen. (Oops, I think I spoiled it a bit, haha). Other than that, not much has changed...

Wait, oh yeah! I released 0.6.1 last week, but it didn't make last week's worklog. Also, I didn't announce it to our discord server, only changed the file on the site and some forums, performance is a lot better compared to 0.6.0.

And I found a bug and fixed it, but the bug is still in the 0.6.1 version, it's just some minor bug and it's located on the gallery, so no worries!

Art (Backgrounds/CG/Sprite)

Red has come up with 2 early concept artwork for 2 out of 4 characters. And this is it! Disclaimer: These designs are not yet final, there might be some changes

Originally there will be 3 more because it's 2 out of 5, but I can only say 2 out of 4 for now, we're actually pretty nervous with the deadline. And that extra char doesn't have to make an actual appearance yet and serves little purpose in Chapter 1. So yeah, put it on the back burner for now! -PervyChoco

And that's it for this week's report, I think we stumbled on some rock this week, we should really pick up our pace, deadlines can be scaryyyy
